Railway park in Krakow. It will be built under the railway overpasses!

The Railway Park in Kraków will be the first park of its kind in the capital of Malopolska. The linear park will be built under the railway flyovers on the section from Kopernika Street to Grzegórzecka Street. The project has just received additional funding of PLN 3.5 million, which will make it possible to resume work on the construction of the park. As a result, the second stage of work – on the section from ul Kopernika to Grzegórzecka – will start in August.

At the end of last year, a contract was signed, under which the necessary ground works were carried out, such as water and sewage connections for the future irrigation system and drinking fountains, or electrical installations for lighting. This phase of the investment, hardly visible to residents, was essential for the proper functioning of the future Railway Park.

The additional funds will allow the plan to continue to create a multifunctional space for residents under the flyovers. As a first step, the area will be cleared so that soil can be spread on it for future greenery planting. The installation of landscaping elements will be carried out, including the play equipment already purchased under the previous contract. The playground area will be provided with an EPDM safety surface and sand for the little ones. Also crucial will be the construction of a wooden platform providing a communication link with the concrete footpath running along Blich Street. The funds set aside will also allow for the construction of an asphalt cycle path from Mikołaja Kopernika Street to Grzegórzecka Street.

The entire park will be divided into functional zones, developed jointly with residents during public consultations. They will be created as part of the third stage of the investment, which will be realised in 2025, within the funds secured at this stage. This will include the construction of a green isolation zone, a sensory garden, a dog park and a rain garden. The works will create Krakow’s first linear park under the railway flyovers.
