Record support for Warsaw’s monuments – over PLN 20 million for renovations

Warsaw is investing in its heritage! The city council has granted record support to the capital’s monuments, allocating more than PLN 20 million for their renovation. This is the largest amount of money among all Polish local authorities. The funds will make it possible to carry out conservation, restoration and construction work on 45 buildings of great historical significance.

Significant subsidies for monuments

on 13 March, city councillors passed the first subsidy resolution of the year, allocating funds for the renovation of historical monuments. Forty-five projects received financial support, which relate to both listed buildings and those included in the municipal register of monuments. During the same session, the budget for heritage protection was further increased by PLN 6.225 million, bringing the total amount for this purpose in 2025 to more than PLN 20 million. This is a significant step towards protecting the historic urban fabric.

Support for monuments – distribution of funds

Of the total sum allocated for renovations, PLN 5,584,500 will go to 22 projects covering monuments entered in the register of monuments, while PLN 5,317,679 will be allocated to 23 projects concerning objects entered in the municipal register of monuments. The grant for a single project may not exceed PLN 500 000 and may constitute more than 70% of the total cost of the works.

Heritage conservation – from foundations to facades

The scope of work covers a wide range of activities, from the renovation of foundations and roofs, through the continuation of projects carried out in previous years (e.g. the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary at 38 Grójecka Street) to the careful restoration of the facades of historic townhouses (e.g. at 30 Koszykowa Street, 20 Widok Street and 20 Chmielna Street).

Supporting the capital’s monuments – the next stages

The amount allocated so far – PLN 10,902,179 – represents 75.19% of the total budget foreseen for the restoration of monuments in 2025. The remaining nearly PLN 10 million will be allocated in the following months for additional projects and reimbursement of costs incurred. Thanks to these investments, Warsaw is preserving its rich heritage for future generations, taking care of the aesthetics and durability of historic buildings. Further decisions on funding are expected to be taken in the near future, which means that the list of renovated monuments may grow even further.
