A riot of colours, bold shapes and intertwining patterns – this is what the 130 square metre flat in Warsaw, designed by Diana Żurek and Gutek Girka of Furora Studio, looks like. It is a space created for a couple with two children, where Brazilian temperament meets Polish sensibility, and everyday life takes on a slightly humorous, energetic character.
The architects opted for intensity and freedom, allowing colours to flow across all surfaces of the interior. Colours interplay with textures and geometric forms, whilst white provides a backdrop that allows the bold accents to shine through. The combinations are bold, and the interplay of colours, shapes and materials creates a composition with a distinctive, vibrant character.
Colour as a means of structuring space
In this project, colour becomes a tool for organising the layout of the flat. It is the forms and colours that delineate the lines of the rooms, create focal points and define individual zones. What was initially a completely different space has been divided into three parts, designed to provide the residents with ample storage space. The result is a non-standard yet highly functional layout, in which every element has its own significance.
The focal point of the flat is the open-plan living area with a subtly separated kitchen. It is accessed via a corridor that winds like a colourful ribbon, its lines and colours flowing seamlessly into the adjoining rooms. Wall bands in shades of pink and orange define the boundaries between the zones, whilst the warm wooden floor brings a sense of cosiness and balance. Every dimension, every shape and every colour has been carefully selected to create a cohesive, dynamic whole.
Private areas
Right next to the corridor is the master bedroom – decorated in white, broken up only by a few subtle accents. It is a space designed with tranquillity and rest in mind. The adjoining bathroom was created in a similar spirit, where small red tiles take centre stage, ‘dancing’ across the floor and lending the interior a sense of lightness.
The third area, concealed behind a bookcase, harbours a blue-and-yellow bathroom. Square tiles wrap around the interior from floor to ceiling, smoothly changing colour and forming a geometric band that ties the whole composition together. This part of the flat also houses a utility room and two children’s bedrooms – left to the little residents as a space for their own interpretation and for building their first worlds.
An interior with character
This flat is a manifesto of courage and joy. Light, colour and warmth intertwine here to form a single, integral whole. Striking details meet welcoming forms, creating a space that is both expressive and family-friendly. Furora Studio’s design shows that an interior can be full of energy whilst remaining functional and attuned to the everyday needs of the household.
