Safe and green intersection in the centre of Poznań. Works are progressing

In the very centre of Poznań, the junction of Taylor, Kościuszki and Taczaka Streets is being rebuilt. If everything goes according to plan, the place will turn into a green and safe intersection, more friendly to pedestrians and cyclists. The realisation of the investment is part of a wider programme of changes to the city’s compact built-up area, which aims to reduce paved areas and introduce planting into public spaces.

The majority of the bituminous paving works and part of the pavements along Taylor and Kościuszki Streets have now been completed. The installation of paving blocks is underway at the elevated junction and new pedestrian routes are being created on the Taylor Street side. In order to keep Kosciuszko Street passable, works are being carried out on the western side of the intersection. In the next stages, once traffic has been transferred to the completed pavement, the contractor will tackle the eastern part.

The investment includes the appearance of new greenery at all intersections inlets and along Taylor Street up to the intersection with Kościuszki Street. A total of 12 trees will be planted, including plane trees and ginkgo trees, as well as almost 150 shrubs, including roses, hydrangeas and David’s budleys. Perennials and bulbous plants, including catnip, perovskia, Chinese miscanthus, ornamental garlic and hyacinths, will complement the new, green appearance of the site. The project, which is already underway, also includes the installation of street furniture, including benches, seats, litter bins and bicycle racks. The lighting on Taylor Street will also undergo modernisation.

The scope of the works is part of a broader strategy of the city of Poznań to successively green downtown areas and improve the quality of life of local residents. The reconstruction of the intersection is expected to be completed before the start of the construction of the new tram line in Ratajczaka Street, scheduled for the third quarter of 2025.
