Sangria – Gdansk interior inspired by the colour and sun of the south

A summer stay at the seaside brings to mind the scent of fresh fruit, the warmth of the sun and joyful meetings with loved ones. This is the mood that gave rise to the design of a 67 square metre holiday flat on Gdansk’s Granary Island. The architects decided to bring the energy of southern climates into the interior, combining it with the local seaside character. The flat in Gdańsk by the Szydlik Wnętrza studio is a successful synthesis of these two worlds.

Each project begins with a conversation with the investors, in which a vision of the space corresponding to their lifestyle is born. In this case, the first meeting brought surprise and excitement. Key words quickly appeared in the designers’ notes: relaxation, comfort, originality and the motif of doors with colourful stained glass. There was also inspiration from Morocco, whose warm climate and rich colours became the starting point for the entire arrangement.

The designers decided to combine Moroccan accents with elements characteristic of modernism. The result is an interior full of colours and textures, in which expressive patterns are juxtaposed with natural wood and soft, rounded forms. This combination gives the flat a unique atmosphere. On the one hand, the interior is full of life and optimism, while on the other it provides peace and relaxation after a day at the beach or exploring the historic city.

One of the most interesting aspects of the project was the unusual shape of the flat, whose plan was based on a rhombus. This meant that the walls came together at sharp and obtuse angles. The architects decided to optically correct this by introducing pre-walls, built-in wardrobes and fittings. This resulted in a clear layout and well-balanced proportions.

The flat was intended as a leisure space for at least four people. In order to fulfil this task, a bed was designed in the central bedroom, stretching between two walls, with a separate entrance from both sides. This solution allowed for comfort while being economical with space. In the living room, there is a sofa bed for additional guests, and the open kitchen with a dining table emphasises the spaciousness of the living area.

Sangria, as the designers called the flat in Gdansk, is an interior full of light, colour and good energy. It combines the joy of a southern atmosphere with the elegance of modernist simplicity. It is a place that invites you to stop, relax and enjoy the moment – just like with a glass of chilled wine on a summer evening by the sea.
