On the Wiszące Ogrody estate in Gdańsk, there is a 42 sq m flat, the interior of which was designed by Aleksandra Czajka-Witkowska, who runs the Czajka interiors studio. The bright interior was created for a young lady engineer who is a lover of plants and travelling. The designed space is elegant, modern and classic.
When working on the interior design, the architect wanted to achieve a timeless effect. The design is based on light woods, beiges and whites, which create a subdued yet characterful space. The proportions of the materials were chosen to make the interior seem spacious and coherent, while at the same time referring to the investor’s interests. The muted colour palette harmonises with details that add cosiness and sophistication.
Living area
The kitchen has been designed in an ‘L’ shape. The space presents two opposing forms: an open, light part in white, penetrating into the living area, and a closed enclosure hiding the fridge and an additional worktop with capacious drawers. The dining area features a round folding table surrounded by upholstered chairs. One of them stands out for its original fabric and shape, and has become the owner’s favourite element of the interior. Above the table, a delicate boat-shaped lamp was suspended to spread soft, warm light during meals.
The RTV cabinet does not connect directly to the kitchen range, which emphasises the autonomy of the zones. A minimalist wall cabinet with two drawers and an open shelf is sufficient to accommodate the necessary equipment. Instead of traditional radiators, one decorative vertical model appeared. A key accent is the Arco sofa upholstered in a richly textured and irregularly coloured fabric, whose steel legs harmonise with the glossy details of the coffee tables, chair legs and sink mixer tap. A subtle contrast is introduced by the asymmetrical composition of the graphics on the wall.

Bedroom and workspace
The entrance to the bedroom is through a glazed door with ornate glass, which has been enlarged to allow natural light to flow in, while providing a sense of privacy. The two sashes open wide, laying on fixed side panels. The bed with upholstered panels has been custom-made, and the vertical divisions of the headboard and wall cladding visually raise the ceiling. Subdued colours and wooden details promote tranquillity, while a wall lamp with a movable arm allows precise illumination of the night area.
A small work area has been set aside in the hallway – a small tabletop for the laptop and shelves integrated into the wooden built-in furniture provide a comfortable home office zone. The entire wall is occupied by a capacious wardrobe, and a large mirror optically enlarges the space.

Bathroom: the relaxation zone
The door to the bathroom is camouflaged by a wallpaper imitating fabric, reaching all the way to the ceiling, which gives the space a warm character. The investor’s dream – a free-standing bathtub in beige conglomerate – is the focal point of the arrangement. Beige also appears on the floor tiles and as the colour of the ceiling and stucco. One entire wall is covered with wooden furniture, behind which the washing machine, dryer and numerous storage compartments are concealed. The nickel-coloured finish of the details, including the front handles and mixer taps, underlines the modern, consistent character of the room.
The 42-square-metre flat has become the perfect haven after challenging days and intense journeys. A thoughtful colour scheme, the play of natural light and refined details have created a real oasis of calm, where every element reflects the personality of the owner.
