The Wiszące Ogrody housing estate in Gdańsk features a 42 sq m flat, whose interior was designed by Aleksandra Czajka-Witkowska, who runs the Czajka wnętrza studio. The bright interior was created for a young female engineer who loves plants and travelling. The designed space is elegant, modern and classic.
When working on the interior design, the architect wanted to achieve a timeless effect. The basis of the arrangement is light wood, beige and white, which create a subdued but characterful space. The proportions of the materials were chosen to make the interior appear spacious and coherent, while at the same time referring to the investor’s interests. The subdued colour palette harmonises with details that add cosiness and sophistication.
Living area
The kitchen has been designed in an L-shape. This space presents two contrasting forms: an open, light part in white, merging into the living room area, and a closed structure concealing the refrigerator and an additional worktop with spacious drawers. The dining area features a round, extendable table surrounded by upholstered chairs. One of them stands out with its original fabric and shape, and has become the owner’s favourite element of the interior. A delicate boat-shaped lamp hangs above the table, spreading a soft, warm light during meals.
The TV cabinet is not directly connected to the kitchen unit, which emphasises the autonomy of the zones. A minimalist wall cabinet with two drawers and an open shelf is sufficient to store the necessary equipment. Instead of traditional radiators, there is a single decorative vertical model. The key accent is the Arco sofa upholstered in a richly textured fabric with an irregular colouring, whose steel legs harmonise with the shiny details of the coffee tables, chair legs and sink tap. The asymmetrical composition of graphics on the wall introduces a subtle contrast.

Bedroom and workspace
The entrance to the bedroom is through a glass door with ornamented glass, which has been enlarged to provide natural light while maintaining a sense of privacy. The two wings open wide, resting on fixed side panels. The bed with upholstered panels was custom-made, and the vertical divisions of the headboard and wall cladding visually raise the ceiling. Subdued colours and wooden details promote calm, and a wall lamp with a movable arm allows for precise lighting of the night area.
A small work area has been set aside in the hallway — a small laptop desk and shelves integrated into the wooden furniture provide a comfortable home office area. A spacious wardrobe takes up the entire wall, and a large mirror visually enlarges the space.

Bathroom: relaxation zone
The bathroom door is camouflaged by fabric-imitation wallpaper that reaches all the way to the ceiling, giving the space a warm character. The investor’s dream — a freestanding beige conglomerate bathtub — is the focal point of the design. Beige also appears on the floor tiles and as the colour of the ceiling and stucco. One entire wall is covered with wooden furniture, behind which a washing machine, dryer and numerous storage compartments are hidden. The nickel-coloured finish of the details, including the front handles and taps, emphasises the modern, consistent character of the room.
The 42 sq m flat has become the perfect haven after challenging days and intense travels. Thanks to the thoughtful colour scheme, the play of natural light and the sophisticated details, a true oasis of calm has been created, where every element reflects the owner’s personality.
