The second iteration of the Siekany concept has opened in one of the most recognisable townhouses on Wrocław’s Market Square – the Renaissance-style ‘Kamienica Pod Siedmioma Elektorami’, whose history dates back to the second half of the 13th century. Tatarownia, previously known from Łódź, has made its debut in Wrocław in a space covering 111 square metres, creating a venue that combines culinary precision with a distinctive, contemporary interpretation of the historic interior.
Architects from the CUDO studio designed the venue as a two-part composition. The first zone is an entrance hall, a passageway that leads guests through a sequence of high tables and intimate booths. The second, main hall, focuses attention on the open kitchen with a semi-circular bar. This forms the centre of the entire concept, both functionally and visually. The symmetrical layout harmonises with the vaults of the historic interior, whilst the soft line of the bar organises the space and emphasises the architectural lines of the ceiling.
A kitchen in fiery colours
The project’s central theme – “a cool kitchen in a fiery colour” – became the starting point for the entire material palette. Blood-red, a nod to the venue’s speciality – tartare – is paired with cool steel, the warmth of wooden parquet flooring and the copper bar front. The table tops are finished with red tiles with a stone texture, whilst the light, beige walls and mirrored elements balance the intensity of the colours. The interior acts as a backdrop for a culinary spectacle – it is striking, yet does not dominate what is happening on the plates.
The greatest challenge proved to be introducing full catering facilities into an interior subject to conservation protection. To minimise interference with the building’s structure, a raised platform was designed throughout the main hall to house the services. The washroom was concealed within a mirrored cube, ensuring it does not disrupt the composition of the space. The dark interior, with limited access to natural light, has been brightened by reflected light – light fittings directed towards the vaults emphasise their form and create an atmospheric ambience.
Signature details
The design incorporates an additional bookshop function – bookshelves have been integrated into the layout, creating a multi-layered experience of the space. Original artwork and illuminated branding reinforce the brand’s character, whilst the designed display window becomes an integral element of communication within the Market Square. This is an interior that not only meets the needs of the restaurant industry but also tells a coherent story of contemporary craftsmanship and conscious design.

The way to the heart is through the stomach
The Siekana concept is based on simplicity and quality. “The menu will be very simple. It will feature high-quality beef tenderloin, produce from local suppliers, cheese from Serotonina, and bread from Plon – a Wrocław bakery. Everything in the interior is inspired by the menu and what we offer on it, namely, above all, tartares,” emphasise the investors. This statement is reflected in every element of the design: from the materials to the lighting.
Modernity embedded in history
Siekany in Wrocław is an example of a project that treats the historic fabric with respect, whilst introducing a contemporary language of forms and materials. The architects from CUDO: have created a space where the intensity of the culinary concept meets precision in detail, and the Renaissance townhouse gains a new, distinctive function.
