For years, Jurata has attracted those seeking harmony between nature and culture. It is in this context that the INTERURBAN studio developed a design for a new apartment building, creating a structure that blends into the landscape. The architects emphasise that they were inspired by the history of the town and its unique location between the sea and the forest. It is this border – subtle yet distinctive – that became the starting point for the entire concept.
The designers talk about Jurata as a space where traditions, memory and nature intertwine. “Jurata is a unique, unrepeatable natural, historical and cultural context. The border between the sea and the forest, the rich history and the people associated with it are particularly noticeable here, and this is what makes this place unique. For this investment, we were looking for solutions based on simplicity but referring to the best building traditions – we want this building to tell stories, connecting people and places,” emphasise the authors of the project.
The central element of the design is a rectangular structure that closes the junction of Świętopełka and Ratibora Streets. Its clear form organises the space without dominating the surroundings. The architects deliberately avoided excessive formal interventions, focusing on balanced proportions and materials that harmonise with the local character of the buildings.
Large glazed areas open the interiors to the surrounding nature, allowing residents to observe how it changes each month. The spacious terraces and balconies are designed to be used all year round. They are a natural extension of the apartments, creating a smooth transition between privacy and the landscape. It is this interface that has become one of the key themes of the project. The architecture does not separate itself from nature, but mediates between it and the resident, creating an experience of closeness and openness.

The new building in Jurata is paving the way for modern development in coastal towns. The architects from the INTERURBAN studio have shown that minimalist architecture can fit well into the local context.

About the studio:
Interurban is an architectural studio founded in 2012 by Łukasz Piankowski and Weronika Juszczyk. The team bases its design philosophy on the belief that creativity is born where the knowledge and possibilities of the modern world meet. The architects do not reject the familiar, but push boundaries by integrating the obvious with the unexpected, always starting with a thorough understanding of the task at hand. In its projects, Interurban explores the relationship between people and place, creating architecture that enriches both users and public space. The inspiration remains the thought of Oskar and Zofia Hansen: “There is no such thing as a ‘typical person’ destined for a typical house.” Each project is therefore created with reference to local cultural, social and historical conditions, as well as with a view to a diverse range of users. The studio emphasises that mutual trust between the client and the architect is of key importance. It is this trust that allows them to create places that have a real impact on the quality of the environment and become a valuable part of the urban fabric.
