It looks like interconnected cottages. The single-family house in Gdynia is a set of traditional forms, where separate parts have been designed to suit the specific needs of the owner. The individual zones give a sense of privacy, isolate from neighbours, while the proximity of the forest and the large garden allow frequent contact with nature.
For the architects at CKK ARCHITEKCI, designing a single-family house was an unusual challenge. In their work, they are most often involved in designing much larger buildings, with areas often amounting to several thousand square metres.
So when we do decide on designs for single-family houses, we try to make them very individual. In this uniqueness, however, we do not look for an exaggerated, excessive or extravagant architecture, but, feeling a sense of responsibility, we always strive for one that is as balanced as possible, ‘ explains Anna Król of CKK ARCHITEKCI.
The designed house is located on a plot adjacent to a forest. Several old trees grew on the plot itself, which we managed to preserve and incorporate into the design of the new arrangement. Today, they fit into the irregular shape of the building.
In the design of the house in Gdynia, the architects focused on balance and functionality. There are no exaggeratedly bloated spaces, the proportions are preserved and the whole is toned down. The individual parts of the building block allow the residents to integrate or disconnect from the rest of the household to, for example, immerse themselves in their favourite reading.
