Small but stylish – the metamorphosis of a 32-square-metre flat in Paris

In the heart of Paris’ 9th arrondissement, in a historic building overlooking an inner courtyard, a modern living space of just 32 m² was created. The conversion of this small flat took three months to create an interior inspired by a luxury hotel suite. The result? Minimalist elegance and functionality at the highest level.

A new look for the space

The initial layout of the flat was quite limited, with the first room serving as a living room and bedroom and the second room housing a small kitchen connected to a miniature bathroom. Furthermore, the toilet was located in a shared corridor and there was an additional service entrance in the kitchen.

The architect decided to radically re-organise the space. Moving a wall allowed a full-size bedroom to be separated in place of the former kitchen. A tall, full-length door matching the height of the windows was also introduced, emphasising the elegant character of the interior.

Materials and details that define character

The minimalist colour palette emphasises the harmony of the interior – the subtle colours of the walls, ceilings and floors create the perfect backdrop for the furniture, artwork and decorative accents. The kitchen was designed using IKEA basics and brand & SHUFL fronts in a raw finish (black lower cabinets and light grey upper cabinets). The space has room for the essentials: a FRANKE sink, hob, oven and fridge, as well as a built-in washing machine.

Lighting and functionality

To optimally illuminate the interior, both recessed and surface-mounted spotlights were installed. In addition, high shelves and mirrors act as both bookcases and reflective elements, optically enlarging the space. The ultra-slim radiators were painted to blend in with the rest of the interior.

Bathroom metamorphosis

The redesigned bathroom has been given a modern makeover to enhance comfort. A compact, space-saving roll-up door was inserted, and a central entrance leading to the new toilet and shower was designed. The use of transparent, reflective glass doors provides an inflow of natural light without sacrificing privacy.

Modern functionality in a classic space

A perfect balance between aesthetics and ergonomics has been achieved in the design. Closing off unnecessary passageways, thoughtfully designed furnishings and high-quality materials have made the flat a cosy yet luxurious place to live. The space, although small, reflects the spirit of contemporary Paris – elegant, functional and full of style.
