St Anne’s Church in Królowy Most: an example of eclectic church architecture

Królowy Most is a picturesque village founded in the 17th century, situated on the edge of the Knyszyn Primeval Forest. The village gained wide popularity thanks to the films “U Pana Boga za piecem”, “U Pana Boga w ogródku” and “U Pana Boga za miedzą”, directed by Jacek Bromski. The village’s landmark, however, is above all the St. Anne’s Church, which is an example of eclectic church architecture from the first half of the 20th century.

Construction of the church began before the First World War, but work was interrupted by the outbreak of the war. It was not until 1928 that the church was completed, and finishing work continued until 1939. At that time, some of the furnishings were transferred from the decommissioned church in Grodno. The temple was finally consecrated on 26 May 1942, on the third day of the Holy Trinity. It was built on a Greek cross plan and harmoniously combines different architectural styles.

During World War II, the Orthodox church and the entire parish were severely affected. The parish was left without pastoral care and the church suffered significant damage – the roof and windows were destroyed. In the 1950s and 1970s, significant repair and restoration work was carried out, which restored the church to a usable condition. In 1987, the church was entered in the register of historical monuments.
