St. Martin’s croissants workshop in Poznań with a retro interior

It is located at 11 Stary Rynek in Poznań. Rogal is an atelier whose main delicacy is the famous świętomarciński croissant. Here you can sample croissants baked on site and relax in the company of good design.

The Świętomarciński Rogal croissant workshop was designed by OYKA studio, led by Dagmara Zdanowicz and Zuzanna Bojko. The designers used retro motifs but gave the interior a modern twist.

In the small premises, both the sales and display area and the production area are separated. When queuing for baked goods, it is difficult to get bored – right at the entrance, customers can see a large display case made of curved glass, behind which the confectioner prepares croissants.

The main element of the interior is a long counter finished with natural veneer in a warm, deep colour. In addition, this piece of furniture is decorated with simple vertical slats and a mirrored plinth, thanks to which the whole seems to float slightly above the ground. The designers used red marble tops, giving the place an elegant flair, and it is complemented by mosaic floors. The backdrop to the counters is the brass wall cladding, as brass is the third most prominent material here, alongside marble and wood.

Visitors to the Rogal workshop usually buy croissants to take away, but a small area with tables has been prepared for those who want to relax with a cup of coffee. A total of three tables have been set up here. Above the seats, a tinted mirror made of vertical strips is designed to reflect the croissants in the display unit.

One cannot fail to notice the lighting. The designers wanted a warm light colour, which gives a cosy atmosphere, but at the same time presents the baked goods favourably. Above the counter hangs a luminaire with a distinctive brass arch, and the seating wall is decorated with spherical sconces on wooden stucco. The whole is complemented by a few subdued details such as travertine furniture handles and decorative table borders, but the overriding aim was to create a framework for the culinary story that is the tradition of the świętomarciński croissant.
