The design for the office of the director of a Ukrainian company proves that austerity and warmth can go hand in hand to create a harmonious working space. The combination of steel, wood and marble has given the interior both a distinct character and cosiness. The office has been designed as a place that combines precise shapes with natural textures, with every detail reflecting the careful craftsmanship.
The office consists of two rooms: a waiting room connected to the secretary’s station and the main office, which serves as both a conference function and a director’s work space. The two rooms are separated by a glass partition wall, which optically enlarges the space while maintaining its functional division.
In the waiting room, visitors are greeted by an interior wrapped in the warmth of wood and steel panels. Soft Zanotta armchairs, a round rug by Ukrainian brand Zali Furniture and soft, muted lighting create an intimate atmosphere. The dimmable Foscarini floor lamp, whose light reflects off the metal waves on the walls, further reinforces the feeling of cosiness.
The reception desk is the focal point of the office space. Its design is a play of contrasts – black, raw metal is combined with marble with an uneven edge. The stone, retaining its natural features, emphasises the organic character of the interior while contrasting with the precise lines. Functional solutions, such as hidden storage cupboards and a small kitchen with a coffee machine, fit discreetly into the space.
The main room of the office is divided into two zones: a conference area and one for individual work. The first area features a large table with a marble top supported by steel bases in a rounded square shape. The director’s work zone is primarily a unique wooden desk, designed specifically for this project. The rounded ends and legs emphasise its uniqueness, while the handmade workmanship gives it a personal touch. Completing the space are the marble and steel shelves, which serve as a place to display samples of the company’s production, fitting in with the aesthetic and functional concept of the project.
Designing this office was a major challenge, requiring close collaboration with three groups of contractors: craftsmen specialising in working with metal, stone and wood. As architect Anastasiia Lukashova points out, almost all the furnishings were custom-made, which required the synchronisation of complex production processes. Her project proves that the rawness of materials and warmth can go hand in hand, combining perfectly in one interior.
