Stylish and practical. A family flat in Mokotów

In this 106-square-metre flat in the Mokotów district of Warsaw, the architects from the Nubo interior studio have created a space that combines the comforts of everyday life with timeless aesthetics. The project was designed for a family with children, but from the outset it aimed for balance – the interior was intended to suit all members of the household, not just the youngest.

The design principles were based on proportions, natural materials and solutions that will remain functional for years to come. The designers emphasise that their inspiration came primarily from the residents themselves and the way in which they wish to use the space. Rather than building the interior around a single style, the focus was on coherence, a sense of lightness and the possibility of future modifications without the need for major renovations.

A neutral base

The colour scheme of the flat is based on warm, neutral tones – off-whites, beiges and natural wood. These create a calm backdrop for everyday life. In selected rooms, subtle accents appear which give them their own individual character: a muted blue in the bedroom and a powder pink in their daughter’s room. Thanks to this, each interior gains its own identity whilst remaining part of a cohesive whole.

One of the key elements of the design is the bespoke joinery found in almost every room. It organises the space, provides adequate storage and lends character to the interior. A clear division of functions also plays an important role – the flat has been planned so that the household members can freely use the various zones without disturbing one another’s activities.

Two bathrooms, two atmospheres

The design features two bathrooms, each in a different style. The first makes use of striking stone-patterned tiles, which give it a bolder character. The second is decorated in warmer, more atmospheric tones. The variety of materials has made it possible to create two complementary worlds – one more expressive, the other more tranquil.

A bedroom for tranquillity

The most intriguing feature is the bedroom connected to the bathroom. This is the only room where the designers chose to move away from a neutral palette and introduce a muted blue. The colour features on the wallpaper, the ceiling and the bespoke steel door. Repeating this motif across various elements has helped to create a distinctive character for the interior without an excess of decoration – here, elegance stems from consistency rather than intensity.

Lighting plays a key role throughout the flat, designed as a unifying theme running through all the rooms. It is complemented by carefully selected furnishings that emphasise the interior’s colour scheme.

The architects emphasise that their greatest satisfaction comes from the fact that the finished project fully reflects the design’s original vision. The flat is elegant yet relaxed; cohesive yet informally welcoming. It is a space that looks good in photographs, but above all works well in everyday life – just as it was intended to from the outset.
