Igor Mitoraj’s fascinating sculptures are scattered all over the world. Knowing that they were made by a Pole is something to be proud of. Just like the works of architects and designers realised or exported outside Poland. It is to the latter, among others, that we have decided to dedicate this issue of whiteMAD.
From the very first pages of this issue, we take you on a fascinating journey into the fashion world of Agata Rek, an interdisciplinary visual artist who skilfully combines collage, photography and painting. She has been creating in the United States for more than a dozen years, boldly breaking the mould. Equally unique is the creative realm of Ania Augustynowicz-Akardaş, known as Augustynka. The artist mixes fashion, presenting its unfamiliar face.

The talent of Polish architects and interior designers is evidenced by numerous realisations, which we describe in the “Architecture” section. The modernist house designed by BARCHITECTURE, the interiors of the sweet Eklerownia in Gdańsk or the BAR restaurant in Kraków make our hearts beat faster. As do the private interiors designed by Karina Roman of the P/ART studio or the atmospheric flat in an old tenement house in Saska Kępa in Warsaw, which came to life thanks to the architect Ewa Lewandowska.
The Polish Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, is a reminder of Polish architecture around the world. We had the opportunity to visit the pavilion during the grand opening in April 2025. What does it look like? You can find out in this issue of whiteMAD!
And what are the feelings of Polish designers and artists whose work extends beyond the country’s borders? You will find the statements of the artists we have invited in the ‘Design’ section. They include Omenaa Mensah, Alina Sztoch, Piotr Wisniewski, Robert Konieczny and Joanna Hawrot.
Towards the end of the issue, we recommend an interview with NeSpoon, whose characteristic lace decorates the walls of buildings in all corners of the globe. Graphic artist and designer Aga Giecko also talks about her successes abroad.
