Technology and art. NIMB installation the result of collaboration between Ciarko Design and Upper Shelf

This marriage of technology and modern design has been given a non-obvious face. The Ciarko Design and Upper Shelf brands have teamed up to create the mysterious ‘Casket’. The NIMB project is an attempt to answer the question “Can you recognise shapes in a room of light reflections and shadows?”.

The collaboration between Ciarko Design and Upper Shelf was celebrated at a gala evening in Warsaw. A dinner was organised at the Pod Gigantami restaurant to coincide with the start of the Warsaw Home fair. The dinner was an opportunity to meet architects, designers and representatives of creative industries, who could exchange experiences and talk about product innovations of the evening’s hosts.

The result of the collaboration between Ciarko Design and Upper Shelf is NIMB, an artistic light installation that aims to illuminate spaces and stimulate imagination in domestic and commercial settings. Initially, the ‘Casket’ was closed and none of the evening’s guests knew what was hidden inside. The sense of mystery was built up by the mirrored sheet metal on all the walls of the installation.

Upon opening the wings of the door, visitors noticed the neon design, which presents a combination of furniture forms and eaves. The impression of depth is enhanced by the mirrored walls inside, which create a unique effect of infinite reflection. Interestingly, the ‘Casket’ was designed in such a way that visitors could step inside and become part of this extraordinary play of light and infinity by being able to walk around the luminous illumination all around.

The Warsaw Home fair also provided an opportunity to talk during the event, where both Ciarko Design and Upper Shelf presented new products in their offers. The Ciarko Design stand showcased, among others, the ICON and FLUO hoods. The former was inspired by totems. Their modular design allows various parts to be combined, which makes it possible to perfectly match the hood’s appearance to the aesthetics of the interior. FLUO canopies also consist of several components, but their design is based on contrasting surfaces. The smooth and minimalist tube is combined with a softly rounded lower element. The plasticity of the collection and the ability to customise the elements is a treat for architects and interior designers, who can refine their designs down to the smallest detail. The ICON and FLUO collections break the mould when thinking about cooker hoods and prove that even kitchen appliances can be like works of art.
