The A2 motorway will be widened and greener. The widening will start next year

The A2 motorway will be widened and made greener. The detailed schedule for the extension of the route on the section between Łódź and Warsaw, which is one of the busiest in the country, is now known. This key government investment aims to widen the nearly 50-kilometre stretch by a third lane in each direction, which will increase the motorway’s capacity, improve traffic flow and reduce journey times.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk presented plans for the Central Motorway Port, which also included the expansion of the A2 motorway. The Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, said that the tender for the construction work would be launched in 2025.

The widening of the A2 motorway with additional lanes is intended to improve safety as well as driving comfort and fluidity. The government is prioritising this investment. The works will cover the 46-kilometre section from the Łódź Północ interchange to the Konotopa interchange, where the motorway will be widened to three lanes in both directions. Smoother traffic will contribute to a reduction in exhaust and noise emissions, which will improve air quality. As part of the project, the lighting will also be modernised – sodium lamps will be replaced by modern LED lamps.

The expansion project also involves the use of renewable energy sources to power the motorway infrastructure. The Regional Director of Environmental Protection in Łódź has already issued a decision allowing the preparatory work to continue. The necessary tender documentation is currently being prepared. Drivers will be able to use the widened A2 motorway between Łódź and Warsaw from 2031.
