The building at 50 Piotrkowska Street will be beautiful! Currently, it is a ruin.

The tenement house located at 50 Piotrkowska Street in Łódź has been considered one of the ugliest buildings in the area for many years. However, this is about to change. It is now known that this historically valuable building will undergo a complete renovation and regain its impressive façade.

Piotrkowska 50 – a tenement house with history

The building at 50 Piotrkowska Street was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries according to a design by Ignacy Markiewicz. In its original form, it was distinguished by its richly decorated façade, which has been almost completely removed over time. Several decades of neglecting renovations and repairs meant that the tenement house lost its former elegance and remained in poor technical condition for a long time. An additional problem was unresolved ownership issues, which effectively blocked any major work.

Revitalisation of Piotrkowska Street in Łódź

The planned renovation is part of the next stage of the Łódź urban revitalisation programme, for which PLN 254 million has been secured. Six tenement houses will be renovated on the prestigious Piotrkowska Street, including the one at number 50. Once the entire investment is completed, 240 municipal flats will be available to residents, and the ground floors of selected buildings will be revitalised with new service spaces.

Piotrkowska 50 will regain its façade

The scope of work at Piotrkowska 50 will include the reconstruction of the historic facade decorations and the redevelopment of the front part and outbuildings. The project also provides for the improvement of the functional layout and the introduction of modern technical standards. The tenement house will be connected to the municipal heating network, and energy and water consumption will be controlled by monitoring systems. The residents of the building will certainly appreciate the planned observation deck on the roof, designed as a green space accessible from the courtyard.

Scope of renovation works

After the renovation, the building will have 31 flats, including premises adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. Each of them will have its own kitchen or kitchenette and bathroom. The ground floor will be occupied by four premises designed for catering activities, and in addition, three spaces for non-governmental organisations and utility rooms are planned. The tender procedures are expected to start at the turn of January and February 2026.
