The charm of brick. The tenement house on Wojskowa Street in Poznań has regained its lustre

Zarząd Komunalnych Zasobów Lokalowych in Poznań has completed modernisation work on the residential building standing at 8 Wojskowa Street. The historic red-brick tenement house, built back in the 19th century, has undergone comprehensive renovation, thanks to which it has once again become an ornament of this part of the city.

The building was erected in 1885 and is listed in the register of monuments as part of the Poznan barracks building complex. The four-storey building consists of three parts – two lower wings at the sides and a higher central part. There is a small courtyard in front of the two entrances at the back of the building. The brick property is located in the vicinity of new residential buildings and other post-school monuments that had already been renovated. This one also needed work to match the appearance of the surrounding buildings.

The tender for the modernisation was launched in 2023. In December of the same year, the contractor began work, which lasted 19 months. The scope of work included both conservation measures and bringing the building up to modern standards. In order to meet these requirements, damp and thermal insulation was carried out, window and door frames were replaced, and all facades were renovated. In addition, the plumbing, electrical and ventilation systems were modernised. New intercoms, fire protection systems and lighting were also installed in the area around the building.

The works also included landscaping the surrounding area. A new waste shed was created, small architecture objects were set up and a new fence was made. An important element of the investment was the elimination of low emission sources. Ten tiled cookers were removed from the building, and a heat substation was installed in the basement, thanks to which the flats were connected to the district heating network.

The cost of the entire project exceeded PLN 4 million. The result of all these works is a renovated, fully functional tenement house, combining preserved historical features with modern amenities. The building at Wojskowa 8 is today an example of successful modernisation of a historic building and another confirmation that investments in urban resources can restore the old character of a space while providing its residents with comfortable living conditions.
