The charm of old Gdansk. Two eclectic townhouses have undergone comprehensive renovation

Two eclectic townhouses located in Gdańsk’s Biskupia Górka once again delight with their former charm. The comprehensive renovation, carried out by Gdañskie Nieruchomości as part of the ‘Revitalisation of Biskupia Górka Stare Che³m’ programme, was one of the most important undertakings in the area. The townhouses, erected at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, are listed in the Communal Register of Historical Monuments and house 17 council flats.

The renovation of the tenements at 23 and 25 Na Stoku Street included a wide range of works aimed at restoring their historic appearance and providing modern housing standards. The investment included securing the foundations to prevent the buildings from settling, reinforcing the masonry structures through injections and stapling with steel rods, as well as new ceilings and damp insulation of the basement walls.

Scope of construction work

As part of the roof renovation, the roof structure was completely replaced, including flashings, gutters and downpipes. The facades of the buildings were conserved, the cornices and architectural details were restored, returning the buildings to their original character. Pre-war German signboards were also conserved on the facades. The eclectic tenement houses have preserved what is most precious about them.
