We wrote about the plans for its restoration earlier in the year HERE. The Delfin sculpture was built at the turn of 1969 and 1970. It was designed by Edward Rybicki and Ryszard Wójcik. Over the past few years, however, the Delfin has been far from splendid. Fortunately, the structure has been repaired.
The sculpture’s renovation was made possible thanks to a grant from the Centre for Polish Sculpture in Orońsko from the budget of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The total cost of the investment was PLN 297 660.
The sculpture is located in the Górali estate in Nowa Huta, Krakow. Importantly, thanks to the work carried out, the Dolphin will once again perform its original function – it has become a fountain. For the time being, however, the sculpture is not gushing with water. The city’s fountains do not operate in autumn and winter, so we will have to wait until spring to see the Delfin in its full glory.
The New Steelworks Dolphin is a work by Edward Rybicki and Ryszard Wójcik. The sculpture was created at the turn of 1969 and 1970. It was selected for conservation work as one of 25 other Krakow sculptures.
This is how the fountain looked BEFORE the reconstruction:
During the restoration work, the sculpture and the basin were cleaned with pressurised water. The ventral fins, which the sculpture had lost some time ago, were reconstructed. Loosened terrazzo layers were repaired, which were first cut and then reconstructed. New elements appeared in the places of defects, but made with the original technology. Finally, the sculpture was waterproofed to make it more resistant to external factors.
