The flat of design enthusiasts in Krakow. This is a project by Agata Popieluch.

A flat in a new building in Krakow’s Podgórze district shows how harmoniously a bright, calm base can be combined with bold accents and subtle references to retro style and modern design. The 64 sq m space has been transformed into a small design gallery, where the architect has skilfully combined various elements to create an eclectic interior.

Agata Popieluch’s design, prepared for a couple of investors, developed in an atmosphere of complete understanding from the very beginning. The owners came with inspirations that perfectly matched her way of thinking about space: light colours, wood, delicate references to the past and bolder colours in carefully selected places. The floor was also a common starting point – light French herringbone, which the investors chose even before the design work began.

The initial concept was received with enthusiasm, and after minor adjustments, it smoothly transitioned into implementation. The effect is the result of a partnership in which the designer and investors worked together, mutually reinforcing their ideas.

The 64 sq m interior comprises a living room with kitchen, bedroom, office and bathroom. The whole is based on light beige walls and wooden floors, which create a calm background for the chrome details present in each room. It is these metallic accents, combined with natural materials, that give the flat its characteristic freshness.

In the bedroom, the designer combined Japandi style inspirations with more bold elements. The wooden bed frame and paper lamp create a soft atmosphere, which is broken by a tiger-patterned rug. Next to it stands a black chest of drawers with chrome details, and the consistent use of black retro sockets emphasises the coherence of the entire design.

The office is a space where the owners’ personality is particularly evident. The central element is a swivel chair with chrome legs, found by the client second-hand. It is accompanied by a green cabinet and a red Flowerpot lamp, which introduce energy and a slightly humorous tone.

The kitchen was designed in the spirit of modern simplicity. The lack of upper cabinets allowed for the dark, veneered fronts and granite countertop to be exposed, contrasting with the light beige tall cabinets. The dining area features a white, round table and Cesca-style chairs, and the whole is enlivened by a lamp with a cobalt accent.

The living room features a corduroy sofa, whose soft texture perfectly complements the light wood of the TV cabinet. A red poster hangs on the wall, introducing a strong colour accent and tying the composition together into a dynamic whole.

The bathroom is the most daring space in the flat. White square tiles are combined with light yellow walls and chrome taps, while black accessories add expressiveness to the whole. The strongest element is the geometric floor in shades of red, pink and cream, complemented by a wooden retro cabinet on legs. All rooms are a perfect example of eclecticism. Bravo!
