The interior was designed by Anna Pilawska-Sita and Agnieszka Mizera. The semi-detached house is situated in Poznań. The interior design proposed by the architects reflects the character and lifestyle of its residents. The project covered the entire ground floor and first floor – from the open-plan living area, through the bathrooms, to the private bedrooms – creating a cohesive, consistently planned space.
The house’s style stems directly from the clients’ personalities. Industrial elements, bold colour accents and raw materials are softened here by natural light and a precisely designed lighting scheme. The intense colours do not dominate the interior, but rather organise the composition and break up the scale of the open space. The decision to omit curtains in the living area has emphasised the building’s modernist form and allowed the large glazed areas to become an integral part of the design.
Colour as part of the design
Colour appears here as in a Mondrian composition – in the form of striking, precisely placed accents. The element that ties the whole together is ultramarine, present in various shades and intensities. It can be seen on the edges of the doors, the door handles, the shower enclosure glass, in the toilet roll recess and on the mosaic tiles in the bathroom. At times it becomes a strong accent, at others a subtle reflection, changing with the light and perspective.
Microcement has been used on the floors and the main staircase – a material that is warmer and softer than concrete, which would have given the interior a completely different feel. Its uniform surface organises the space and creates visual cohesion. Microcement also features on the ceilings in the bedroom areas, where it creates a calm, harmonious backdrop for softer textures.
Open-plan living area
The focal point of the ground floor is the kitchen, where dark wooden units are paired with light-reflecting metal fronts and colourful accessories. In this open-plan space, the light wooden table plays a special role – positioned to naturally organise the daily lives of the household. It is surrounded by chairs and loosely suspended lamps with soft, irregular shapes reminiscent of clouds. Their organic lines break up the geometry of the interior and lend it a sense of lightness.
All the way to the roof
The first floor houses the bedrooms and bathrooms, designed as spaces of tranquillity. Raw materials are paired here with soft tones and carefully selected lighting that emphasises the proportions of the rooms. Colour accents appear in a more subtle form, whilst still engaging in a dialogue with the ground floor’s design. As a result, the entire house – from the entrance to the most private nooks and crannies – forms a coherent, well-thought-out whole.
