The new Warsaw Centre: work on Złota and Zgoda Streets is in full swing

Construction work in the area of Złota and Zgoda streets in Warsaw is gathering pace. A huge excavation, heavy equipment and huge pipes attract the attention of passers-by. A complex reconstruction of the retention system and the construction of a modern fountain are currently underway there to change the face of this part of the city. The new Warsaw Centre will bring a new quality of life to the heart of the capital.

The investment includes the expansion of the quarter of Złota, Zgoda, Jasna and Sienkiewicza streets as part of the New Warsaw Centre project. A key element is the construction of the second part of the retention basin, designed to collect rainwater that will be used to irrigate the greenery in the area. Alongside it, a technical room responsible for operating the modern infrastructure is being built. To ensure the efficiency of the system, the two facilities will be connected by water and sewer connections. As part of the redevelopment, a new stormwater drainage system will also be built to serve the carriageway of Zlota Street in the area of the intersection with Zgoda Street. In addition, a second fountain will be created near the intersection to enhance the urban space.

The size of the excavation is not accidental – it is a result of the need for appropriate technical solutions. The first part of the retention basin used the existing sidewalls of the former tunnel on Złota Street. This time, it was decided to create a spatial excavation with appropriately shaped slopes, which ensures soil stability and minimises the risk of landslides. In the coming weeks, it is planned to excavate the sewer wells and reinforce the bottom plates of the tank and the technical room. This will be followed by the construction of the walls of the facilities, which will be sealed by reinforcement and concrete pouring. The completion of this work will be followed by the installation of the water supply connections and the technological system of the fountain. Only after the installation is complete will it be possible to backfill the technical room and the reservoir. In the next stage, lighting and telecommunications systems will be installed, as well as automatic posts to regulate access for vehicular traffic. Finally, workmen will proceed with the reconstruction of the road surface, pavements and the construction of the second fountain.

The effects of this comprehensive modernisation will be visible soon. The modern retention infrastructure will allow more efficient rainwater management and the urban space will gain a more aesthetic and functional character. Instead of the former tunnel, a linear garden with two fountains will appear, emphasising the modern and green character of the New Warsaw Centre.
