The People’s Restaurant in Poznań. It is an interior full of surprising simplicity and warmth

The Ludowa restaurant has recently opened at 27 Słowackiego Street in Poznań. Its interior is distinguished by its frugal and well-thought-out form, and the author of the entire project is the owner of the establishment, known in the Poznan gastronomic world as Rafael Anatol. The restaurateur’s aim was to create a space where guests’ attention is focused on food, while the arrangement does not distract from it with unnecessary pomp and decoration.

The dominant colour scheme of the establishment is made up of shades of beige, sand and natural linen. The tablecloths and curtains are made of fabric produced in a Polish family-run manufactory, which is a conscious choice by Anatol and puts a premium on aesthetics and respect for craftsmanship. Although the name of the establishment refers to Polish folk cuisine, it is not about folkloric associations or the aesthetics of colourful canteens as we know them from the early 2000s. The Ludowa concept is based on presenting Polish cuisine in a modern and elegant form, while maintaining respect for tradition, but without being literal.

Ludowa w Poznaniu

One of the most important and striking design elements is the chandelier. The object was created from recycled plastic IKEA lamps from years ago, embedded in plaster. The installation is intended to remind us of the passing of time and of objects that are given a second life and a new meaning. It is an interpretation of old beauty in a fresh way. The restaurant’s tables are decorated with vegetables, which are not just original decoration, but also ingredients used later in the kitchen. In this way, no product goes to waste and every item present in the interior has an important function.

The atmosphere of the Ludowa restaurant is complemented by music. In the background, old Polish songs that are familiar to everyone resound, which are not so much a nostalgic background as an element of building the identity and coherence of the place with its menu. An unusual touch is the toilet entirely lined with mirrors. This treatment allows you to look at yourself from many sides and provokes a moment of reflection. This small space serves as a reminder of presence, time and the traces we leave behind both in places and in relationships or culinary experiences.
