The railway station in Wejherowo has regained its historic appearance. This is what it looks like

The work, which lasted almost two years, thanks to which the historic railway station in Wejherowo was rebuilt, has been completed. The investment was carried out by PKP S.A. in cooperation with the local government. The building from the second half of the 19th century looks almost exactly as it used to.

The Wejherowo railway station was built in 1868, and passengers started using it in 1870. The building is located on the railway line connecting Tricity with Słupsk, Koszalin and Stargard. Now, thanks to the work carried out, the station and its immediate surroundings have undergone a metamorphosis. The façade of the building and its architectural details have been renovated. Importantly, as a result of conservation work carried out on the north and west elevations of the station building in 2024, historical inscriptions with the name of the city were covered.

Most changes have taken place inside the building. The space has been adapted to meet the modern needs of passengers. In the western, ground floor part of the building, space has been created for passenger services (lobby, ticket offices, toilets, retail and service units). There is also a space on the ground floor that will house the district library.

We want railway stations to be not only places where passengers are served, but also facilities that are attractive to local communities. Thanks to cooperation with local authorities, many interesting projects are being implemented at the stations modernised by the company and our stations are becoming service centres for local residents. The same is true here in Wejherowo, where a modern library will be created in the railway station space,” says Paweł Lisiewicz, member of the PKP S.A. Management Board.

The redeveloped complex is easier to navigate for people with disabilities. Architectural barriers have been removed and pathways have been installed. The entire facility has gained a monitoring system.

The immediate surroundings of the station have also changed. As part of the investment, the single-storey western extension and four service buildings were demolished. On the western side of the station, a small car park with several parking spaces, including two for people with reduced mobility, as well as a bicycle shelter and a waste disposal shed were created. In addition, the pavement has been resurfaced and the green areas have been tidied up, the railwaymen report.

The cost of rebuilding the railway station in Wejherowo, which is subsidised from the state budget, amounted to over PLN 18 million gross. The investor was Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. (Polish State Railways), and the reconstruction project was developed by PAS PROJEKT sp. z o.o.. The contractor for the construction work was a consortium of companies consisting of: KAMARO spółka z o.o. sp. k. based in Gdańsk (consortium leader) and Sobin sp. z o. o. from Gdańsk.
