The Red Island in Warsaw. It is like an art installation

An original development has appeared in front of the Va Bene Cicchetti premises on Ludwika Waryńskiego Street. The red island is an extension of the bar’s interior and is an attractive space to spend evenings here in the summer.

NOKE Architects Piotr Maciaszek, Karol Pasternak and Aleksandra Hyz are responsible for the design of the structure. In turn, the art installation of the bar was created by Ola Niepsuj. The new section is called ‘Giardino’ and contrasts with the grey buildings nearby. The red cups floating upwards are like artistic flowers arranged in the form of umbrellas.

To get here, you have to boldly cross the azure line of light and set foot on a platform made of dyed ceramics, say the project’s authors.

The space consists of functional modules. Made with sculptural care, the lodges, modular tables that can be freely arranged and seats scattered between the shafts of the ‘umbrellas’. Under one of them stood an arched bar, designed by artist Ola Niepsuj.

The effect of intense red was achieved through the right choice of materials. This was helped by the ceramics, which combine Venetian traditions and the pre-existing decor of the bar.

Personalised stoneware and terrace tiles with a unique pattern and colour are the result of cooperation with Tubądzin. The intricate lacquered steel elements, meanwhile, were made by local Warsaw craftsmen, the architects add.

The whole is complemented by greenery in pots, and the original aura is enhanced by a luminous line surrounding the island. The light source has been concealed in metal profiles. NOKE Architects have succeeded in creating an attractive space that resembles an art installation and at the same time fulfils the functional form of a bar garden. Congratulations!
