The Ogrody Loop in Poznań will be transformed into a publicly accessible square. Work has already begun including fencing and securing the construction site, as well as demolishing existing roads, fences and culverts. In the next stages, it is planned to remove the topsoil, construct embankments and a cable duct, as well as build new pavements and a technical road. The project also involves upgrading the lighting, introducing new planting and setting up small architecture and signage.
The initiator of the square is the Ogrody Housing Estate Council, while the implementation of the project was entrusted to the Public Transport Authority of Poznań. As a result of the works carried out, the hitherto neglected square will feature new alleys surrounded by trees and bushes, benches for relaxation, deckchairs and new access to tram stops. It is planned to plant 24 new trees, numerous flower beds, shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses in the square. The vegetation will be in harmony with the greenery at the nearby bus stop on Dąbrowskiego Street.
In preparation for construction, shrubs and 10 trees in poor health were removed over the winter. The remaining trees have been properly protected for the duration of the works to minimise the risk of damage. The new planting will include trees such as Dutch lime, red chestnut, common maple and American ambrosia. Planned perennials will include common orchids, stiff sedges and Japanese anemones. Colourful beds will grow, among others, catnip and roses.
The alleys in the square will be made of high-quality natural materials such as stones, grits and a special ecological binder to ensure durability and comfort during walks. A small square will be created in the central part of the square, as well as a space reserved for a future memorial to Dr Wanda Blenski. Along the alleys, 21 energy-saving LED lights will also be set up to ensure the safety of the square’s users after dark. After the redevelopment, the Ogrody loop will become a friendly and useful place that will significantly improve the aesthetics of this neglected part of the city.
