The renovation of the surface of Krakowskie Przedmieście Street has started. This is the first work on this section in 16 years

Repairs to the surface of Krakowskie Przedmieście, which had been announced for months, have just started. For this purpose, the section from Senatorska Street to Królewska Street has been closed. The wavy and chipped cobblestones will be replaced by a durable and resistant surface. For pedestrians, the works do not mean major difficulties, but drivers and public transport buses will take detours. The work that has started is the first renovation on this section in 16 years.

A few days ago, the final stage of repairs to the surface of the Royal Route in Warsaw began. Miodowa Street was the first to be repaired, in 2017 and 2018. At that time, it was possible to develop a technology that could withstand intensive bus traffic. A year later, the Municipal Roads Authority returned to Krakowskie Przedmieście and a piece of Nowy Świat, where the same technology was used to repair the road surface in the section from Swietokrzyska Street to Królewska Street.

Now the last section of the Route – between Królewska and Miodowa – will be repaired. The previous renovation of this section took place in 2008, 16 years ago. When the work is completed, the surface of Krakowskie Przedmieście will be free of any humps, ripples and cavities in the pavement and protected from damage.

The end of June means an ideal time for road workers to carry out repair work. Traffic is lighter, so any closures or detours will not cause major difficulties. This stage of work will last until the end of the summer holidays. Once the renovation is complete, the unevenness and chipping of the road surface will disappear. Above all, heavy vehicles, especially buses, will no longer cause so much damage to Krakowskie Przedmieście – Warsaw’s most representative street.
