The renovation of the Tramway Worker’s House has begun in Poznań. The monument will be beautiful again

Zarząd Komunalnych Zasobów Lokalowych (ZKZL) is continuing the comprehensive modernisation of Poznań’s Tramway House. The next stage of work has now begun, which includes the restoration of the façade and a thorough renovation of the legendary Amaranth Hall. This is an important step in restoring the former glory of this historic building.

Tramway Worker’s House – history and significance

The Tramway Worker’s House was built between 1925 and 1927. It was designed for employees of the Poznan Electric Railway (now MPK Poznan) and was a meeting place for tramway workers’ families. Over the years it has had residential and cultural functions, being an important point on the map of Jeżyce and all of Poznań. As one of the most important cultural venues in the area, the Amaranth Hall still hosts numerous events, attracting residents from various parts of the city.

Scope of modernisation works

The current stage of renovation includes extensive work both inside and outside the building. The modernisation of the Amaranth Hall involves, among other things, enlarging the auditorium by adapting adjacent rooms, renovating the stucco, refreshing the paintwork and replacing the parquet floor. In addition, the internal balcony will be restored, which will improve the comfort of the audience and facilitate the work of the technical staff. The foyer and staircases will also undergo changes. On the outside of the building, a comprehensive renovation of the façade is planned, which will regain its original appearance and colours. In the usable part of the building, the historic window woodwork will be restored. Modernisation will also include the replacement of the following installations: electricity, water supply, gas, central heating and fire protection. Another important element of the investment is the construction of an external lift from the courtyard, which will significantly improve the accessibility of the building for seniors and families with children.

Tramway House – timetable and funding

The renovation is being carried out in stages. In previous years, ZKZL carried out, among other things, thermo-modernisation, reinforcement of the roof structure and damp insulation, for which PLN 2 million was spent. The current stage of work, which is much larger in scope, will consume PLN 8 million. Funds for the investment come from various sources, including the City of Poznań’s budget, the Termo programme run by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego and grants obtained by the Jeżyce Housing Estate Council.
Construction work is starting as planned and is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2026. The modernisation project was developed by Eneprojekt.
