The Stegny skating track will undergo modernisation. New covered arena to be built by 2028

Stołeczne Centrum Sportu AKTYWNA WARSZAWA has announced a tender for the comprehensive modernisation of the Stegny skating track as part of the first stage of the investment. The project will be carried out under the ‘Design and Build’ formula, which means that the selected contractor will be responsible for both the preparation of full design documentation and for carrying out construction work and obtaining all necessary permits, including an occupancy permit.

The 400 x 11 m skating track was commissioned in 1980. Janusz Kalbarczyk was responsible for its design. The architects responsible for the entire complex, which in addition to the track also included two buildings, were Elżbieta Jankowska (chief architect), Czesław Molenda, Andrzej Ryba, Zbigniew Cis-Bankiewicz and Franciszek Ukleja of the Stolica Municipal Building Design Office. The facility initially operated as part of the Warsaw Sports and Recreation Centre (WOSiR) and was later incorporated into the Capital Centre for Active Sports Warsaw (SCSAW). It is now one of four operating artificial skating tracks in Poland.

Stegny

As part of the first stage of modernisation, it is planned to build a covered hall with a 400m speed skating track and an additional training track. There will also be two ice rinks measuring 30 x 60 m, which will be used for ice hockey, figure skating, short-track and other recreational activities. Grandstands with a capacity of 4,500 spectators will be provided for fans. In addition, the project includes the creation of changing-room, training and administrative facilities, as well as the development of the area around the facility, including the construction of a car park with at least 200 spaces and an urban roller track with a length of approximately 800m.

The facility, which is expected to be ready by 2028, will serve as both a training centre and a venue for international sports competitions. The modernised facilities will meet the highest international standards, in line with the requirements of the ISU (International Skating Union) and IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) federations. The main objective of the modernisation of the Stegny Centre is to promote winter sports disciplines, support physical activity among families, children and young people, and to popularise physical culture among Warsaw residents, including people with disabilities. The project is co-financed by the Physical Culture Development Fund, managed by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. The deadline for submitting bids in the tender is 27 August 2024 at 10:00.
