The summerhouse next door to Grandma Alicia’s is a unique development that combines childhood memories with modern architecture. The investor, who is also an interior designer and privately Mrs Alicja’s granddaughter, decided to return to her family land and create her own space on the neighbouring plot. The result is a small but highly distinctive summerhouse that pays homage to her grandmother’s modernist vision. Beautiful architecture meets an even more beautiful history here. Applause for Ms Natalia, applause for Ms Alicia.
Modern form inspired by tradition
The renowned architectural bureau Vostok from Krakow is responsible for the project. The architects proposed a concept of a light, two-storey cottage made of larch wood with an area of 69 m². The most striking feature of the volume is the curved roof and the large glazing of the living room, which opens up the interior to the picturesque landscape. The extended living room floor flows seamlessly into the terrace, which optically and functionally enlarges the living space.
Summerhouse next to Grandma Alice – local materials and details
The summerhouse next to Grandma Alice was built with respect for the local context. Natural materials were used: local larch and river stone from a nearby stream. The light-coloured plywood veneered with American maple lends a lightness to the interiors, while corresponding in colour to the pinkish hue of the larch wood.
The interior is dominated by wood – both the ash staircase and the custom-made kitchen furniture and balustrades. Their handmade character underlines the individuality of the development and gives it a unique craftsman’s touch.
Viewing location and changing nature
The bungalow has been positioned on a hill so that it overlooks the surroundings, much like a modernist grandmother’s house from the 1960s. The skilfully placed windows frame views of the forest, meadow and neighbouring houses, allowing you to observe the changing nature in every season. It is a space created for contemplation, relaxation and finding harmony with the surroundings.
An interior full of light and warmth
The interior of the cottage is bright, warm and modern, but not devoid of an emotional charge. Natural light, wood and textures make the space cosy yet functional all year round. It is an ideal oasis of calm – close to nature and family history.
Back to the roots in a modern way
The summerhouse next to Grandma Alice’s is more than contemporary architecture. It is an emotional journey to the past and an attempt to capture the spirit of the place through modern means of expression. The project harmoniously combines tradition and modernity, responding to the need to return to one’s roots – in an aesthetically pleasing, conscious and respectful manner for family history.
