The neo-Baroque architectural pearl of Jeżyce, the Tramway Worker’s House, will undergo comprehensive modernisation. The building’s façade and window woodwork will regain their former glory. Inside, the Amaranth Hall, among others, will be renovated. The building will also become more accessible thanks to the addition of an external lift. A tender procedure is under way to select a contractor for the work.
The Tramway Worker’s House was built between 1925 and 1927 and was designed for employees of the Poznan Electric Railway (now MPK Poznan). It was a meeting place for tramway workers’ families. To this day, the building performs cultural functions and serves the local community. Particularly noteworthy is the restoration and restoration to splendour of the Amaranth Hall, located in the central part of the building. The auditorium space will be extended by an adjoining room. Moreover, the paintings and stuccowork will be refreshed. The parquet floor will also be renewed and new curtains will be put up in the windows. The interior balcony will also be restored to serve the audience and the technical staff. The foyer and stairwells will also be renovated. The scope of the planned works also includes renovation of the façade. The building is to regain its original colours. Moreover, in the usable part of the building, the remaining historic window woodwork will be renovated. As part of the works, the following installations will be replaced: electricity, central heating, water supply, gas and fire protection. In the residential parts of the building, the staircases will be renovated and the window woodwork will be partially replaced.

In the renovation, people with disabilities and families with young children have not been forgotten, for whom an external lift will be an improvement. It will be installed at the rear of the building. The modernisation of the entire building will be carried out under the supervision of the Municipal Conservator of Monuments. Important information for the residents of Poznań and cultural institutions is that the renovation work should not affect the repertoire or the cancellation of scheduled events. The planned modernisation is to be carried out in such a way as to interfere as little as possible with the planned artistic activities.

A tender procedure consisting of five parts has been announced on the purchasing platform of the Management Board of Communal Housing Resources. Within its framework, in addition to the renovation of Dom Tramwajarza at Słowackiego Street, the contractor will also carry out modernisations of buildings at 41 Wawrzyniaka Street, 5-9 Akacjowa Street, 2 and 2a Fabryczna Street and 9-11 Bystre Street. For potential interested parties, this is an excellent opportunity to enrich their portfolio with the renovation of a valuable architectural pearl in the heart of Poznań. If all goes according to plan, all work on the Tramway Worker’s House should be completed by the end of 2025.

Work has been carried out at the Tramway House in previous years, but on a smaller scale. In recent years, among other things, the roof was renovated or the walls were insulated. The heating source was also changed – the gas boiler room was replaced by a connection to the district heating system. The money for the renovation of the Tramway Worker’s House will come from, among others, the budget of the City of Poznań. Part of it was obtained by the Jeżyce Housing Estate Council under grants. The rest will come from external funds obtained by ZKZL under the Termo programme run by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego.
