The construction of a new Warsaw Gdanski railway station has been announced by PKP S.A., which has announced the resumption of cooperation with Ghelamco. Instead of the current station, travellers will use the new facility.
As part of the investment, four office buildings will be constructed on a plot near the Warszawa Gdańska railway station. As yet, their design is not known. The visualisation we are publishing shows one of the office buildings. Its concept was prepared by architects from the Sud Architectes office. The office prepared a visualisation of changes in this part of the city for the investor Ghelamco already 10 years ago. As the editors of the whiteMAD magazine found out, from the plans presented then, the presented building will be realised. The appearance of the others is yet to be developed.
The current station building dates back to 1959 and was designed by Stanisław Kaller of the Warsaw Office of Railway Studies and Projects. However, the modernist block is in a terrible state. The old ornaments and architectural details have long been gone. The station does not have monument status.
Today, the railwaymen announced that an annex to the investment agreement has been signed, which will enable the resumption of preparations for this major project. The annex was signed by companies from the PKP S.A. Group, Xcity Investment and the Ghelamco Group. The plan calls for the construction of four multifunctional commercial buildings with an estimated total area of around 100,000 square metres. The space planned for the new station will amount to 1,900 sq m. The investment will be carried out in five phases. Four of them are the so-called commercial phases, and the fifth phase envisages the construction of the new Warszawa Gdanska station. The investors want a modern business centre to be created with excellent rail and underground connections.
The Warsaw Gdańska development project, which is at the centre of our recent activities, is a strategic investment for Xcity. The construction of a modern office and service complex together with a new railway station will not only meet the growing needs of the market, but will also contribute to the development of this part of the city. Thanks to the combination of an excellent location, modern architecture and extensive infrastructure, our project will become the new business centre of Warsaw,” said Ireneusz Gliszczyński, President of the Management Board of Xcity Investment.
The investment within Warszawa Gdańska will be carried out under the so-called developer project. This is a formula according to which PKP S.A. – the owner of the land – contributes it to the project, while the investment is carried out by Xcity Investment, a company established for this purpose within the PKP Group, and an external partner – the Ghelamco Group.
As a company that has in its portfolio such icons of modern Warsaw as Warsaw Spire with the European Square, Warsaw UNIT or The Bridge skyscraper currently under construction, we have many years of experience in the implementation of multi-functional, city-creating projects and business centres. We are very excited to resume our cooperation with PKP, as we see great potential in the Warsaw Gdanski railway station to create a valuable space that will bring together the needs of Warsaw residents, business and passengers of modern Polish railway, ” says Jarosław Zagórski, Managing Director of Ghelamco Poland.
For the time being, the date for the commencement of work and the completion of individual stages of the investment is not known.
