They built it on a slope. A house like a barn

It was designed by Mimosa Architects. The single-family house, which looks like a barn, is located in Vraný in the Czech Republic. It is a simple building with a wooden façade. Its rustic shell is a counterbalance to the minimalist décor.

The building is located on a green plot, which is distinguished by wild vegetation. The house was built on a sloping plot that slopes down towards the river. The south-facing slope opens up the house to the garden and frames the view of the greenery in the distance.

The house exudes a simple rural character. Only the placement of the windows suggests a dynamic interior design. The materials used unite interior and exterior with their simplicity, natural quality and authenticity. The façade is decorated with untreated, rough-sawn wood. The wood elements inside the building have been oiled. The exterior is also decorated with local stone and black metal.

When designing the interior, the architects concentrated the rooms around a spacious lobby. This hall connects all five levels of the building. This does not mean that the house has multiple floors. Its interior is directly based on the difference in height of the ground, so the rooms are located on different levels. In total, the usable area of the house is 302 square metres.

The highlight of the house is the natural character of the garden. From the outside, the house blends in with the surrounding trees and shrubs. Plants create semi-enclosed nooks and crannies, enhancing the charm of the entire garden.
