In a town near Krakow, right next to the Zabierzowski Forest, an interior has been created that exudes calm and conscious use of colour. The design by Weronika Fortecka, founder of Fortecka Studio, is a refined space, harmonious and cosy. The architect focused on a calm atmosphere and functionality, avoiding the coldness often associated with modern designs. How did she arrange the 120 sq m space?
The basis of the arrangement is the combination of muted beige walls with warm-toned oak wood. This composition creates a calm background that blends seamlessly with the view outside the window. The colour scheme of the interior (burgundy, brown and green) was inspired by the forest surroundings. There are also elements of art, such as graphics by Nikodem Szpunar. Attention to detail is evident even in the fittings: decorative sockets have been chosen to blend in with the surfaces and not disturb the visual coherence.
The kitchen as the centre of home life
The kitchen is the most important part of the living area. It is a space where geometry meets function, and beige fittings complement the colour scheme. The muted shade of the fronts creates a backdrop for the expressive oak, whose contrast gives the whole a sense of depth. The natural quartzite worktop introduces nobility and durability, and its pattern subtly enlivens the whole.
A unique element is the rounded kitchen island. Its soft form facilitates movement and brings the household together. The lower part of the island conceals shelves for cat bowls, adding a personal touch to the design. The built-in furniture also includes a coffee area: an oak recess with a system of retractable fronts, which can be exposed or completely hidden, depending on your needs and mood.

A living room bathed in light
The lounge area takes advantage of the impressive architecture of the house. The six-metre-high ceiling allowed for a spectacular installation of three Northern fabric lamps to be suspended above the dining area. In the living room, attention is drawn to the monumental white fireplace, which forms the backdrop for the corner sofa and oak coffee table. The monochromatic base is broken up by small, jewel-like accents: a burgundy Hay table with blue decoration and a bright green glass wall lamp that changes its character depending on the light.
This part of the house also includes a guest bathroom. Its decorative wall of sculptural sage-coloured tiles is enlivened by a wall lamp with a coral insert, which gives the room a subtle energy.
Quiet zone
The private area of the household continues the main design principles, albeit in a more subdued version. The private bathroom has been designed as a space of solace – beige stone tiles, quartzite countertops and oak details create a clean, calm composition conducive to daily rituals. The bedroom completes the whole project, becoming a place of seclusion where the recurring motifs of wood and muted beiges create an atmosphere of closeness to nature.
