They have settled in the buffer zone of the Kampinos Forest. This is what the interior of the house looks like

The interior of the house designed by Ewa Lewandowska is the answer to the dream of the owners – Dorota and Jerzy – of a refuge where family life and meetings with friends take place in the rhythm of slow living. The architect decided to arrange the interior of the house so that its atmosphere would become a natural extension of the wild landscape of the Kampinos Forest.

The interior design refers to the contrasts of the Kampinos landscape – dry dunes and wet swampy areas, dark pine forests and bright birch groves. The architect has translated this landscape into the language of materials, colours and composition: from the light oak floor through the oat-toned veneer to the deep, matt black of the furniture and details. The interior has a natural, austere elegance, but is also an intimate place, tailored to the needs of the inhabitants.

Matter and craftsmanship

The interior design incorporates a collection of art textiles, hand-formed ceramics and contemporary paintings, treated not as accessories but as part of the structure of the space. The dining room’s central piece of furniture is the ‘black oak’ table – the result of multi-stage craftsmanship, whose history from log extraction to assembly gives the interior the weight of time and authenticity. A tapestry made by Dorota according to a concept by Ewa Lewandowska and ceramic plates with graphics by Madzia Kuczko integrate the personal history of the owners with the author’s design of the space.

The kitchen at the centre of home life

The architect-designed kitchen has become the heart of domestic rituals. A comfortable island with a satin-finished black granite worktop functions as a food preparation area and central meeting space. Above the island, a steel arrangement with perforated shelves for displaying ceramics and herbs was suspended, combining practice with aesthetics. Anthracite fronts conceal the appliances, while linear lighting emphasises the geometric clarity of the island. Polished Cristallo quartzite appears as a wall screen and fireplace surround, merging the kitchen with the lounge area.

Living space and play of light

Ewa Lewandowska took advantage of the opening of the ceiling above the lounge area to create a theatrical, high space – the almost seven-metre height makes it possible to hang the spectacular Vertigo lamp, which casts a fine chiaroscuro pattern after dark. Two coffee bean-coloured leather sofas, a natural fireplace fire and a hand-woven wool rug create a zone of tranquillity and togetherness. The designer furniture from the FIABA collection, including the low console behind the sofa, integrates design with function and reinforces the sense of cohesion.

The entrance area, bathrooms and bedrooms are designed with the intention of intimacy and focus. The entrance hall combines hammered anthracite tile with melange wallpaper, the dressing room received a Rosso Levanto stone top and brass handles with fluted detailing. The bathroom is dominated by a dynamic washbasin unit with a double vanity top and mirrored cabinet. The master bedroom is a classic layout with a walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom equipped with a shower with sauna function; the matte black wood-textured tile gives the space a calming character conducive to relaxation and work.

Dialogue with nature

The interior design was conducted with respect for the existing greenery of the plot: the pine grove has retained its shape and becomes an integral background for the interiors, which, through the palette of materials and the rhythm of details, refer to the surrounding forest and meadow. The interiors do not compete with the landscape – they complement it, creating a seamless relationship between inside and outside. Handicrafts and the presence of objects with a personal history emphasise this connection, making the house a place embedded in a specific identity.

Ewa Lewandowska’s realisation is above all a response to the need for community. The designer has created a space where celebrating slowness, sharing meals and meeting friends become a natural, everyday experience.
