This two-level flat in Wrocław is a project in which architect Robert Witczak has combined modern simplicity with a clear focus on the surrounding greenery. The two-storey flat, with a floor area of 98 square metres, has been designed to make the most of its location next to Żernicki Park. The tall ground-floor window and the wide mezzanine window open up the interior to the landscape, making the view an integral part of everyday life.
A well-thought-out layout across two storeys
The architect based the design on a clear division of functions. The ground floor houses the living area – the entrance, kitchen, dining room, living room and toilet – creating a space that encourages spending time together and natural flow between rooms. The first floor, with its mezzanine, serves a more private purpose: it houses a guest room and a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, designed to ensure comfort and tranquillity. The two-level layout allows for a clear separation between everyday life and the relaxation area, whilst maintaining the stylistic coherence of the entire flat.
Minimalism based on natural materials
The architect consistently builds the interior’s atmosphere through a limited palette of colours and materials. Natural shades dominate – beiges, warm greys, muted whites – which form the backdrop for the bespoke veneered fitted furniture. It is this furniture that organises the space and gives it character, combining functionality with elegance. The simple geometry of the forms has been softened by gentle curves, ensuring the interior remains modern yet not cold. The contrast between the large glazed areas and the calm colour scheme emphasises the flat’s relationship with its surroundings.

Light, light, light!
The tall glazed areas not only open up a view of the park but also allow changing light to flood into the interior, naturally shaping the space. The architect has deliberately harnessed this potential – the arrangement of the furniture, the flow of movement and the proportions of the rooms have all been tailored to how the light changes throughout the day. As a result, the flat takes on a dynamic yet serene character, and its atmosphere shifts with the changing seasons.
A design tailored to the client
The interior was created for a private client who sought a modern, functional space incorporating natural materials. Bespoke fitted furniture, a clear functional layout and a consistent colour scheme combine to create a flat that meets the client’s practical needs. The Gardino flat is an example of a project in which the interior design does not compete with its surroundings – instead, it coexists harmoniously with the greenery of Żernicki Park, making it one of the most important elements of the entire project.
