They purposely paint the lines on the roads like this. They force drivers to drive slowly

Unusual lines on the road have appeared in an American township in the state of Pennsylvania in the administrative area of Montgomery Township. In an effort to force drivers to reduce their speed, curved lines have been drawn, prompting them to drive carefully along the stretch, which is expected to translate into safety for the local community.

The problem of fast-moving cars on Grays Lane had been growing for years. Residents referred to the street as a race track. The local authority finally decided to tackle the problem and decided to introduce unusual painting on the street. The winding lines were designed by a team of specialists – traffic engineers, road safety officers and road maintenance staff. The solution, despite its rather unusual appearance, was the result of lengthy consultation and analysis of the situation on the ground.

From the moment they appeared, the lines attracted interest from residents and internet users alike. There have been humorous comments on social media, questions about the state of sobriety of the painting crew or the suggestion that the lines were painted by children of a few years old. In addition to humorous comments, there were also concerns – particularly in the context of cyclist safety, as the curved lines at certain points disturbed the clear visual perception of the traditional cycle lane. One online user wrote that he assumed that the road safety officers had never cycled, otherwise they would not have agreed to such an experiment.

In response to the wave of comments, Montgomery Township authorities confirmed that the curved lines are no joke. According to public information assistant Ava Komasz, the curved lines are a “real precautionary measure” put in place after a thorough analysis of the traffic situation.

Journalists from CBS News Philadelphia TV asked residents for their opinion on the lines.Reactions from the local community were mixed. Some respondents found the new signage “ugly” and “bizarre”, while also highlighting that some drivers continue to drive on the middle part of the road, raising questions about the effectiveness of the measure. Nevertheless, Montgomery Township authorities have no intention of stopping – more modifications are planned, including the implementation of similar painting on other streets.

Montgomery Township’s innovative approach is an interesting example of how creative, though not always traditional, solutions can be implemented to improve road safety. While the visual effect and public perception of this initiative is controversial, there is no denying that strong measures have been taken to protect residents from dangerous manoeuvres on the road.
