After spending years in Italy, Ola and Tomek returned to Poland with a load of memories of sunshine, nature and the lazy rhythm of the South. The project by dash interiors designers Daria Wachowicz and Martyna Duch-Kupis turns these memories into everyday reality: they have moved into a house in Warsaw with an area of 150 square metres. Its three-storey interior combines Italian lightness with the warmth of Polish hospitality.
The realised interior design is like an aesthetic story, but instead of literal quotations from Italian architecture, subtle traces are suggested. The composition of the interior is based on a natural, calm base – wood, stone and soft fabrics form the background against which the details flourish. Each element is intended for everyday pleasure; function and poetics coexist without tension, and the form remains open to further evolution.
Materials and details
Floors in a classic herringbone pattern are interspersed with natural stone slabs and textile surfaces, which together build a refined neutrality. The wooden kitchen – the axial focal point of the ground floor – acts as a stage set for daily rituals: cooking, conversation and breakfast before going out. The bathrooms feature terrazzo, whose fine inclusions and chromatic reflections immediately refer back to Italian townhouses and the classic design of the south. Vintage touches have been sensitively chosen: the Cesca chairs, the modernist armchair and the ornate glazing by the bathtub, which diffuses light like jewellery – the detail has been given a narrative role, not just an aesthetic one.
Space and light
The layout of the house emphasises the fluidity of the transitions between zones. Glazing and transparent solutions act as a filter between inside and outside, letting in luminous reflections that change according to the time of day. The ornamentation in the bathroom with bath is not just decoration; it is an element that introduces rhythm and the play of light, making bathing a ritual reminiscent of stimulating warm memories. Each floor has its own pace – the private spaces maintain intimacy, the ground floor remains open and welcoming.

Atmosphere and use
The interior fulfils the hosts’ postulate: a home where everyday life is a pleasure. Materials and furniture build a comfortable elegance, while vintage objects introduce a story of the hosts’ travels and tastes. It is a space that soothes after a day’s work, inspires creation and allows one to live ‘Italian’ without showy gestures, rather through daily rituals. The house becomes a conscious fusion of memory and the present, where every element references history while serving contemporary challenges.
