Kolejowa 4 - Kantor Pod Filarami

They were neglected. Now they are attractive. New signs in Ostrów Wielkopolski

This year, Ostrów Wielkopolski hosted the third edition of the ‘Sign in the Rain’ event, which the archiBUNT association organised together with the owners of premises on Kolejowa street. Three selected premises were given a new visual identity, new signs and attractive shop windows.

The signboard event is realised thanks to the financial support of the Town Hall in Ostrów Wielkopolski as part of a competition for the realisation of public tasks in the area of revitalisation. The entire project is led by designer Konrad Moszyński and realised by the Arneon studio under the direction of Jacek Zamojski.

The metamorphoses of the three premises’ service windows were preceded by a rich educational and workshop programme: a series of lectures on good practices in visual identification, design consultations, manual workshops and a studio walk. As a result, the owners of the premises not only learned about the principles of clear and aesthetic branding, but also actively participated in the fine-tuning of the final designs.

As part of the latest edition, the shop windows of three establishments were successfully transformed. Kantor Pod Filarami – decorated with a double-sided neon-semaphor “KANTOR” visible from afar – an animated neon in the shop window, which attracts the eye with its movement and changing colours – precise lettering on the door, clearly informing about the currency exchange service.

Studio Osterdam Tattoo – gained an elegant, hand-painted neon sign with the words ‘Osterdam Tattoo’ – a double-sided neon semaphore, guaranteeing good visibility from both directions of the street.

The third spot was the Ziaja cosmetics shop . Thanks to the changes, the premises are adorned with a modern ledon, consistent with the brand’s corporate image, while also fitting in with the atmosphere of the street

Each of these elements combines the aesthetics of neon design with an informative function, enlivening the space and reinforcing the local identity.

The first edition of ‘Sign in the breath’ took place in 2022 on Wiosny Ludów Street, where new life was given thanks to neon signs: Sklep Mariett (27 Wiosny Ludów), Sklep Muzyk (21), Sklep Dobranoc (9) and Biuro Nieruchomości Ulichnowski (7). The second edition, carried out in the spring of 2024 on Kolejowa Street, resulted in the metamorphosis of four service points – including the shop window of the Dora shop – and the entire programme of workshops, walks and consultations culminated in the renovation of the facades at a cost of PLN 30,000.

City supports revitalisation

The involvement of the Town Hall of Ostrów Wielkopolski – both substantively and financially – is a key pillar of the ‘Sign in the air’ campaign. Thanks to the budget from the competition for revitalisation tasks, the initiative is progressing from a concept to real changes on the street, which improve the quality of public space and create a friendly face of the city.
