The interior of the house, built on the shores of the lake in Szczytno, was designed by architects from the Houmi Projekty studio. The result is a space in which light, colour and soft forms create a distinctive, vibrant landscape. The clients – a family of three and their dog – wanted an interior that was bright, functional and bold, whilst still making use of natural materials. The architects created a design based on a neutral palette, allowing colour and bespoke details to take centre stage in the home.
The foundation of the composition is a light, almost monochromatic base: a microcement floor, white walls and lighting with organic, sculptural forms. The lamps serve both a practical and decorative purpose here – their presence organises the space and gives it character. The neutrality of the background is broken up by warm wood and intense colour accents. A lemon-coloured sofa, pink-peach built-in units and a green staircase balustrade create a composition that immediately catches the eye and defines the atmosphere of the interior.
Functional living area
The architects designed the living area in a non-standard way, prioritising maximum comfort for the occupants. Although the kitchen does not have an island, it has been divided into two zones, which streamlines daily meal preparation and the organisation of tasks. Another key element of the design is the clever use of the space under the stairs, where the entrance to a spacious storage cupboard integrated into the built-in units is concealed. This has provided the house with additional storage space without compromising its visual lightness.
Soft lines and joinery details dominate the entire living area. All the built-in units (from kitchen units to smaller elements, such as the TV cabinet or the console unit under the washbasin in the guest toilet) were made to individual order. Rounded corners, irregular divisions and bespoke handles lend the furniture a sense of fluidity and emphasise its unique character. The design also features more decorative accents: Viennese wickerwork and geometric tiles paired with contrasting grout, which enhance the interior’s distinctiveness. Even The Frame television has become a decorative feature, with selected works of art displayed on its screen.
Colourful bathrooms
The bathrooms have been designed as bold spaces, full of colour and energy, yet highly functional. They offer ample storage space, helping to maintain order and ensure comfort in everyday use. The main bathroom features a wide vanity unit with two washbasins – the white worktop, plinth and ceramics create a cohesive, minimalist composition set against the warmth of wood and intense colour accents.
Master bedroom
One of the most unusual rooms is the master bedroom, where the layout of the windows and doors necessitated placing the bed in the centre. As a result, the headboard serves as a subtle divider, separating the space into a relaxation area and a dressing area. The backdrop to the entire composition is tall built-in furniture featuring Viennese wickerwork detailing, which adds elegance and structure to the interior. The headboard itself is fitted with a practical storage space for small items, enhancing the room’s functionality.
The result of Houmi Projekty’s work is a home full of light, soft forms and colour – bold, energetic and highly individual. It is a space that meets the needs of a family’s everyday life, whilst retaining a distinctive, original character.
