The ‘fabric_emotions’ workshop, organised by the University of Arts in Poznan, will take place on 22 November. This time the meeting will be devoted to textiles, a matter that combines disciplines, technologies, media, art and design. This is another installment of educational events that broaden knowledge and develop practical skills. Participation in the event is free of charge. Details are published in the article.
Workshop participants will search for the hidden potential in soft materials, create constructions and create spatial forms from them. The workshop will be led by Prof. Katarzyna Laskowska (UAP), Karl Rogatzki, M.Sc. arch. Łukasz Spychaj (UAP), Alina Maniszewska – designer from the partner company RIDEX.
In whiteMAD magazine, we often describe fashion collections by young designers that have been created using leftovers or production waste. We also observe their application in design. The workshop will allow us to see the possibilities that lie in seemingly useless materials. We need to change our perception of them and start treating waste as a raw material.
We will create new forms and juxtapose them with elements chosen by the workshop participants, create light spatial forms and arrangements with attention to the relationships between the objects created. We will conclude the workshop with the mounting of an exhibition at UAP,” reads the announcement by the University of Arts in Poznań.
The workshops will be held in the spirit of REuse, REduce, RE…. raising public awareness of environmental protection and respect for nature, matter and existing creations. The use of production waste has long been a source of material for creative people, so it is crucial to raise awareness of environmental protection, respect for nature, matter and existing creations so that they can be implemented in creative works. In short, they could have a second life. The meeting will make it possible to uncover the hidden potential of materials and show a creative way of further working with textiles, knitwear and non-woven fabrics, from which spatial forms can be prepared.
The practical part will be complemented by a dose of knowledge. Karl Rogatzki will focus on construction in clothing and garment modelling, while Lukasz Spychaj will provide information on architectural and engineering constructions. Alina Maniszewska, on the other hand, will address fabric types, their functionality and application.
The workshop will conclude with the installation of an exhibition in the space of the University of Arts in Poznań. The workshop is open to students and young people interested in the subject. Participation in the workshop is free of charge. Attention: registration required! To sign up for the workshop, please send an email to: warsztaty@uap.edu.pl. It is worth hurrying, the number of places is limited.
