A flat designed for a family of three people and three adopted dogs was realised in Warsaw’s Ursus district. All the four dogs came home from various shelters in Poland, so it was particularly important for the owner to create a space in which everyone would find their place. On 46 square metres, furniture and objects accumulated over the years had to be organised and the interior given an interesting expression.
She wanted a cheerful flat, full of personal touches and at the same time tidy. She wanted to find a common background for the various pieces of furniture, which until then had not been in harmony with one another. She entrusted the project to Karolina Sierska-Ulikowska, an interior architect from the Yo Home Design studio, known for her empathetic approach to design.
Ursus flat – new functional layout
The designer’s most important task was to arrange the space in such a way that the flat remained comfortable, roomy and conducive to everyday life. It was necessary to plan numerous storage spaces and wardrobes, as well as to ensure privacy for each member of the household. As a result, a bold decision was made to separate the bedroom in the existing kitchen and move the kitchen into the living room. Although the living area now appears smaller, the new layout has brought more order to the rhythm of the day and created a place for everyone to relax. Similar considerations were made for the daughter’s room, the arrangement of which was adapted to her individual needs.

Colour, pattern and emotion on 46 sq m.
The interior is united by a wealth of patterns and colours that create a vibrant but thoughtful composition. The flat features Casamance and Boras wallpapers with floral motifs, tiles with geometric forms and expressive colour planes, such as the red wall in the kitchen contrasting with the black of the wall sconce and sculpture. The whole is complemented by natural materials: oak parquet, veneer, plywood and furniture with a history. Polish design also plays an important role, which both the designer and the investor were keen to introduce into the interior. Colourful accents, including a pink fridge or a Louis Poulsen lamp, enhance the very original charm of the flat.
Design with empathy at Yo Home Design
Karolina Sierska-Ulikowska has been creating interiors tailored to specific people and their lifestyles for over ten years. Her work is not about creating arrangements for a catalogue, but about responding to people’s real needs. The designer emphasises that in her work she is guided by the values, dreams and personality of her clients, treating everyone as an individual. For this reason, she does not limit herself to one style, but seeks solutions that best reflect the character of the investors. As she herself admits, the combination of interior design with a passion for psychology allows her to create designs that give a sense of fulfilment and joy in everyday life.
