The country’s first specialised veterinary ambulance, operating as part of the “Na Paluch” animal shelter, has hit the streets of Warsaw. The vehicle enables basic medical assistance to be provided to animals during transport and is ultimately intended to improve the safety of interventions carried out in the city.
Veterinary ambulance for homeless animals
The specialised ambulance was launched by the Jan Lityński “Na Paluch” Animal Shelter. It is the first vehicle of its kind in Poland at the disposal of a municipal facility. The vehicle allows for the transport of animals requiring oxygen therapy, respiratory support and initial stabilisation of their health while en route to the clinic. The ambulance will be used to collect patients from Warsaw veterinary clinics on the basis of reports submitted by the Municipal Police.

Ambulance for veterinary rescue
The ambulance was designed with the specific nature of the shelter’s work and the realities of rescuing animals in life-threatening situations in mind. Its equipment is based on standards known from medical rescue, while being fully adapted to veterinary requirements. On board, there are oxygen therapy systems with flow control for cats and dogs of various sizes, transport modules for oxygen therapy with temperature control, stretchers and an orthopaedic board. These are complemented by heating mats, anti-slip and anti-shock protection, medical compartment monitoring and extensive lighting, ventilation and temperature control.

The new ambulance makes it possible to provide assistance to animals in the most serious conditions even before they reach the clinic, which is very important in cases of traffic accidents, shortness of breath, poisoning or severe stress. Until now, the transport of injured animals has been mainly carried out by the Municipal Police’s Eco Patrol. The arrival of a specialised ambulance increases the scope of the city’s activities, providing better support for emergency services in the field and greater safety for four-legged patients. As representatives of the city hall emphasise, the new vehicle reduces the risk of complications during transport and raises the standard of care for animals arriving at the shelter.
