Warsaw: the new footbridge in Port Czerniakowski is now open!

Residents of Warsaw can now use the new crossing. The footbridge in Port Czerniakowski, which became available on 15 August, has become an important element of the recreational infrastructure in the Vistula area and facilitates the movement of pedestrians and cyclists. It is an investment that restores the former transport function of the site and increases its attractiveness.

The new bridge is 60 metres long and 8.2 metres wide. Its structure is made of steel and reinforced concrete, all set on large-diameter drilled piles. The crossing replaced a wooden bridge that was closed in 2008. The design was prepared by the PONDUS Cezary Witas design studio and the construction work was carried out by Primost Południe Sp. z o.o. on behalf of the Warsaw Greenery Authority.

More convenient connections and greater accessibility

The bridge connects the quays of Czerniakowska and Zaruskiego streets, providing a safe passage over the harbour channel. It also makes it possible to connect the bicycle routes running from the Łazienkowski Bridge with the traffic routes on Solec, Czerniakowska and Łazienkowska streets. The facility has been adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, making it more accessible to all users. The crossing also supports the operation of the port, as it allows technical passages for the operation of floating vessels. The investment also included a new road leading to the harbour basin and stairs to facilitate the descent to the pier in the northern part. At the same time, the former traffic organisation on Zaruskiego Street and Piñska Flotilla Boulevard was restored.

New recreational opportunities on the Vistula

Czerniakowski Harbour is one of the most important leisure spots on the Vistula, which has gained even better conditions for spending time. The new crossing facilitates access to a rich recreational offer, including sports activities and events organised at the Warszawa Harbour. The harbour offers rowing, beach volleyball, kayaking or SUP sailing, as well as a cruise on the Vistula. The bridge has not only improved the functionality of the area, but has also introduced a new spatial quality. Surrounded by greenery, it has become an attractive place for walking and relaxing. The neighbourhood has gained a character that is more friendly to both residents and visitors.

The new footbridge in Port Czerniakowski – nature and events

The surroundings of the bridge have been landscaped in a way that promotes nature. Green passageways have been laid out to allow nurogos from the Lazienki Park to safely access the water. Although the bridge is now accessible, its official opening is scheduled for 6 September during the Vistula Festival. The programme will include concerts, a parade and numerous attractions prepared with the whole family in mind.
