We take a look inside Anna Lazar’s studio. The premises are in an old tenement house

Designer Anna Lazar creates subtle, artistic interiors where the spirit of the past meets modernity. Her own studio, which is the birthplace of all her designs, is located in one of Minsk’s oldest buildings, built in the 1890s and situated in the quiet historic centre of the city.

The building, made of red bricks, is intriguing with its history and numerous legends. Some say it once housed Count Czapski’s hotel, while others believe it was the flats of employees of the local brewery. Although its history is not fully known, its architectural qualities remain. The original decorative windows catch the eye – especially one of them, in the Art Nouveau style, which impresses with its complexity of form and beauty of lines.

Anna Lazar’s studio is located in a one-room flat on the first floor of this historic building. Right from the threshold, the interior conveys the atmosphere of bygone eras – the subtle charm of the original details is combined here with an innovative approach to space arrangement. In order to preserve the authenticity of the historic atmosphere, a number of precise renovations were carried out, which at the same time allowed elements of contemporary design to be introduced.

During the renovation work, it became apparent that the original floor had been preserved in good condition. Its natural pattern blends perfectly with the handmade, 2 cm thick ceramic tiles created by Italian craftsmen at the EcoCeramic factory. This juxtaposition of traditional craftsmanship and modern precision is testament to the care that has gone into the restoration of every detail.

The removal of the suspended ceilings opened up a space with an impressive height of four metres, revealing an old chimney that became the starting point for bringing the old fireplace tradition back to life. The restored fireplace became not only a functional element of the interior, but also its main colour accent. Emerald tiles of Italian marble decorate the piece, perfectly harmonising with the soft, dusty pink of the walls, which are further given a unique touch by the hand-applied nail pattern on the raw plaster.

Also contributing to the uniqueness of the interior is the view of the historic Osmolovka district and the natural light that relentlessly floods the space, pouring in through the restored windows. These elements add a magical touch to the flat, making the artistic space not only a place to work, but a true inspiration for further creativity.

Anna Lazar’s studio, is a unique combination of history and modernity. Every detail has been carefully revitalised to preserve the authenticity of past eras while opening the door to contemporary solutions. This harmonious fusion of tradition and modern design creates a place that exudes tranquillity, creativity and unique charm.
