Two townhouses in Gdansk’s Lower Town are shining again. The renovation of the buildings located at 13/14 and 15 Wróblej Street has just been completed. The buildings, dating from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, underwent thorough modernisation, and as part of the investment nine council flats and one commercial unit were created. The total cost of the project was more than PLN 6.8 million. The work was partly funded by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, while it was carried out by Gdańskie Nieruchomości. Mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz handed over the keys to the first tenants.
The entire investment cost just under PLN 7 million with BGK funding of PLN 4,834,932.74. The city announces that it will apply for an increase in the amount of the subsidy. The renovation work was completed on 9 May 2025, and the acceptance procedure is currently underway. Six flats and a commercial unit were created in the tenement at 13/14 Wróblej Street, and three council flats were created in the building at 15 Wróblej Street.
The scope of works included comprehensive modernisation of both historic buildings. The general construction work included vertical and horizontal insulation of the foundation walls, insulation of the ceiling above the basement and replacement of the floors. The renovation and conservation of the façade was also carried out in accordance with conservation recommendations, including the restoration of stucco details, cornices and rustications.

In addition, the roofs were modernised by reinforcing the trusses and providing new roofing with flashings. The work also included the installation of new windows and doors restored according to historic patterns, insulating the external walls and installing damp proofing in the bathrooms. New partition walls were created in the townhouses and plaster was renewed in the rooms. The staircases were also renovated, preserving their historical character.
As part of the modernisation, new sanitary, electrical and teletechnical installations were made. A central heating system, mechanical ventilation, air conditioning in the offices and water and sewage systems were installed. Both townhouses were also equipped with a photovoltaic system, gutter heating, a smoke extraction system and a lightning protection system. In terms of teletechnical installations, new RTV, SAT, LAN, FTTH infrastructure was made, as well as an intercom and fire alarm system. The entire facility is managed by a BMS system, which allows efficient control of energy consumption and building operations.

The renovation of two tenement houses on Wróblej Street is the next stage of the revitalisation activities carried out by Gdańsk in the Lower Town. Thanks to comprehensive modernisation, the historic buildings have gained a new function and a standard that meets modern requirements, while retaining their historic character.
