What awaits visitors to the Poland Pavilion at Expo 2025? Concept of the exhibition

Expo 2025 kicks off in less than six months in Japan. On Wednesday 2 October, during the PAIH Business Forum 2024, the concept of the Polish Pavilion’s exhibition was announced. Visitors to the pavilion will be able to experience Poland through various senses. Part of the exhibition will be interactive, and solutions based on artificial intelligence will take care of the relevant impressions.

During the event, the state of Poland’s preparations for its participation in the Expo was summarised, the progress of work related to the construction of the pavilion and the concept of the exhibition was presented.

Work on the construction of the Polish Pavilion is gaining momentum, the implementation of economic, cultural and scientific promotion programmes is proceeding according to plan. Both the Poland Pavilion and the internal exhibition will create an image of a modern, creative, open and cooperative Poland, ‘ said Deputy Minister Jacek Tomczak during the presentation.

Poland’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai is expected to contribute to the promotion of the country on several levels. This includes the economy, culture, science and tourism. This will be helped by students who will carry out student internships in the Polish Pavilion and serve visitors.

At the World Expo, the economic aspect is as important as the cultural, tourist and scientific aspect. Thanks to this event we can build the image of our country comprehensively and strengthen Poland’s position on the international arena,’ said Magdalena Skarżyńska, Vice-President of the Board of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency.

During the PAIH Business Forum 2024, the concept of a display in the Polish Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai was presented for the first time.

The national pavilions at the Expo present an image of the country, a showcase that invites further discovery. The exposition is meant to make a positive impression on visitors, to engage emotions and interest the country. We are confident that the architecture of the Poland Pavilion, as well as its interior exhibition, will win acclaim in the eyes of the Japanese and visitors from all over the world. I am very pleased that with six months to go until the start of the Expo, we were able to present the complete concept of the exhibition,” said Eliza Klonowska-Siwak, Deputy Commissioner General of the Polish Section of the World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.

The exhibition in the Polish Pavilion

The exhibition concept in the Polish Pavilion consists of interactive art installations that showcase the ‘creativity gene’ enshrined in the identity of Poles. The atmosphere of the place is created by a combination of nature, tradition, science and technology. Its driving force is the visitors, who both experience and co-create the exhibition.

The concept for the permanent exhibition Spirit Plant:

The Magical Dimension of the Exhibition. Visitors will be introduced to local herbs and their role in the area of the theme proposed by the Japanese Expo Organisers – ‘Saving Lives’ – in an original way, experience the variability of the Polish landscape and directly feel the influence of man in shaping it, and even ‘play’ an unusual instrument based on craftsmanship. The backdrop of the exhibition will be the sounds derived from nature and the soundscape that inspired Fryderyk Chopin – a key figure in the presentation of Polish culture in Japan.

Innovation and balance. Art installations will introduce visitors to the world of current knowledge and groundbreaking innovations, to a zone concerning the future. A map of selected sectors of the Polish economy, promising in terms of economic exchange between Poland and Japan, will be presented there. The presented examples of Polish start-ups and established companies will show internationally how to build economies based on balance. Their diversity illustrates Polish companies’ responses to approaches to such future challenges as food security, access to energy or raw materials.

During the six-month event in the Polish Pavilion, individual provinces will also be promoted. The regions will have several days each to promote themselves.

The arena for the presentation of Poland at the World Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai will be a pavilion of nearly 1,000 m². The architectural concept, designed by Alicja Kubicka and Borja Martínez of Interplay Architects, is based on the use of wood, and the form of the building is intended to evoke the association of a wave of Polish creativity and innovation spreading beyond the country’s borders. Poland is one of 47 countries that will realise their own pavilion design.

A curatorial team consisting of: Monika Brauntsch – KAFTI, Ewa Kierklo and Stanisław Kempa – GDYBY and Wiesław Bartkowski. It was developed in collaboration with artists and female artists, as well as experts in various fields.

The Expo in Japan will run from 13 April 2025 to 13 October 2025. 161 countries will participate in the event, plus there will be nine pavilions of international organisations.
